emerit Certification Program

Event clients are seeking exceptional service from knowledgeable and experienced coordinators who are recognized as industry professionals.

emerit Professional Certification effectively demonstrates to prospective employers and/or clients that you have met the performance standards set by your industry peers across Canada. Being nationally certified as a Tourism Certified Professional (TCP-EVC) and Tourism Certified Manager (TCM-EVM) gives you a competitive edge through recognized tourism industry credentials that you can display on your business cards and résumé.

Extensive and unique skills are required in order to succeed in the Events industry. The Professional Certification process is designed to recognize your current abilities while enabling you to expand your knowledge, strengthen your performance skills in the familiar and convenient surroundings of your own workplace.

Certification

Upon successful completion of your exam, performance review and workplace evaluation, you will receive a national emerit pin and emerit certificate through the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council, visible recognition of your achievement and the right to display the TCP and TCM credential on your resume and business cards.

Work Experience Requirement

To become an emerit certified Event Coordinator you must currently be working in the industry and have acquired 1500 hours of relevant experience within a three-year period prior to being evaluated. emerit Professional Certification is self-directed. You challenge the following three steps when you are ready:

Written Exam

The 100 questions in the exam test your knowledge of the Event Coordinator National Occupational Standards, which are the foundation of the certification process. Developed by experienced industry professionals, these documents provide a detailed checklist of the knowledge, skills and attitude required to succeed in this occupation.

Performance Review

The performance review is a checklist of the competencies required to be nationally recognized as a knowledgeable and skilled Event Coordinator. The review is self-directed but you are encouraged to work with your supervisor or an industry colleague who can provide guidance on skills that may require improvement. The written exam and performance review must be completed before the workplace evaluation can be scheduled.

Workplace Evaluation

When the first two steps are completed and the work experience requirement met, a trained industry evaluator conducts an evaluation of your knowledge, skills and professional attitude on-the-job. The workplace evaluation is the most effective way of testing your ability to consistently demonstrate the skills and attitude required for national certification in your occupation. The evaluation is two parts and includes a case study to be completed by the candidate, on-site at the office of the certifying body or industry evaluator and an interview evaluation where you verbally demonstrate the following during a variety of scenarios.

The registration fee provides you with an emerit Event Coordinator workbook or online learning modules, national knowledge exam, performance review, workplace evaluation, national emerit pin and emerit certificate.
